When the off-the-shelf software nearly fits but not quite, you can either change how your business works to suit it, or have something built that suits you.
Off-the-shelf software is built for the average version of your business. If you are the average version, buy it. Most businesses that come to us are not, and they have spent years bending how they work to fit a product that nearly does the job.
A bespoke web application is the other way round. It gets built to match how you already work.
What we build
- Booking and ticketing systems. Taking money for time, seats, tables or entry, without paying a fee on every transaction to somebody else.
- Customer portals and member areas. A place your customers log in to see their own orders, documents, bookings or account.
- Quoting and configuration tools. Letting people price up a job themselves instead of waiting two days for somebody to email them a number.
- Dashboards and internal tools. The thing that is currently a spreadsheet nobody is allowed to touch.
- Integrations. Getting the systems you already pay for to talk to each other, so nobody is copying data between them by hand.
How you know you need one
You probably don’t need custom software because you want it. You need it when one of these is true.
You’re paying a platform a cut of every sale, and the cut has got big enough to notice. Somebody on your team spends hours a week re-typing information from one system into another. The product you bought does eighty per cent of what you need and the other twenty per cent is the part that actually makes you money. Or the whole operation is held together by a spreadsheet and one person who understands it.
What we’ve built
Cannon Hall Farm is one of the busiest farm attractions in the UK, and it was running on off-the-shelf ticketing software that could never quite keep up. So we built them their own. It has since sold more than £10 million in tickets and given over 200,000 visitors a digital passport to the farm.
Crest Hotels Group needed nine hotels with nine different brands running on one system. Every property looks like itself, every property pushes guests to book direct, and a brand new hotel can go live without anybody starting from a blank page.
Glasscraft are one of the UK’s only independent glass manufacturers. Their customers now price up their own jobs with a self-serve Quick Quote tool and track their orders without ringing anybody.
What it costs
Bespoke work starts at £12,000. Where it lands above that depends on how much the system has to do, how many people use it, and how many other systems it has to talk to.
You get a fixed price before anything starts. If we think you’d be better off buying something off the shelf, we’ll tell you that instead, and it will be the cheapest conversation you have all year.
