Little me discusses SEO

It starts, as these things do, with an email promising a steady stream of new customers every single day.

So little me and big me had it out about it.

Being number one brings you volume. It doesn’t bring you good clients. Somebody who clicked the first link they saw and fired off a message is not the same as somebody who was recommended to you, and you’ll spend the same hour of your life on each of them.

It’s slow, too. I tell clients six to twelve months before consistent on-page work shows anything worth looking at, and that’s me being generous.

SEO is worth doing. It isn’t worth doing instead of everything else. And it’s certainly not worth buying from whoever emailed you about it this morning.
